Together, Global Medical Brigades and Global Dental Brigades form the largest student-led movement for global health. Working with local communities and staff, students implement a sustainable health model where rural, under-resourced communities receive access to medical and dental care. This is accomplished through the four core initiatives of our sustainable healthcare model: community health workers, a community-based pharmacy, regular doctor and dentist visits in mobile clinics, and a patient referral system.

 

Through Medical and Dental Brigades, you can shadow local and foreign healthcare professionals in rural communities of Central America or West Africa. Volunteers assist with intake, triage, medication packing, and health education in addition to shadowing physicians. The clinic is entirely run by volunteers, community members, and Global Brigades staff.

 

Although Medical and Dental Brigades are essential for achieving Global Brigades’ mission to resolve global health and economic disparities, they are only a component of the Holistic Model that Global Brigades strives to implement. The Medical and Dental brigades also rely on the success of Business and Microfinance, Engineering, Environmental, Human Rights, Public Health, and Water Brigades in order to improve the quality of life and empower the many communities we work with.
