Voluntourism, and How We're Combating the "Savior Complex"
Many organizations such as Global Brigades often gain a bad reputation and are labeled as "voluntourism" groups. Voluntourism is a growing term in a generation of young adults who seem to travel abroad with more efforts in helping their resume rather than helping others. Read this blog that Global Medical Brigades alumni, Reilly, wrote about combating voluntourism! Hopefully this gets you thinking about new ways you, too, can fight voluntourism and negate the "savior complex."

Global Brigades Week!
GB Week is an international celebration which aims to spread the word about Global Brigades' work. It's an annual, week-long initiative for Global Brigades chapters to organize events on their university campuses and in their local community. As an organization, we tend to focus on the Brigades conducted abroad. However, it's easy to forget that these Brigades are the culmination of months of preparation in volunteers' home countries. The year-round activities of volunteers on university campuses drives our organization, and GB Week is our way of highlighting this often forgotten but vital aspect of our work.
