ABOUT OUR CHAPTER

GLOBAL BRIGADES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS

UT Austin's chapter of Global Medical Brigades was founded in 2010, and is one of the longest running university constituents of Global Brigades. Over the past ten years, UT GMB has led 21 brigades to Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, and Ghana. This past year we have also visited Belize, Greece, and Guatemala where we had the opportunity to collaborate with other chapters across the country. For these brigades, our 786 volunteers have cumulatively fundraised over $1,000,000 for sustainable healthcare development in many communities. These past brigaders have now moved from GMB to dedicate themselves in a wide variety of professions including medicine, nursing, physical therapy, other healthcare professions, public health, biomedical sciences, financial consulting, and more. Many of our past volunteers who have gone on to to continue their education in medical or law school have cited their experience with UT GMB as a foundational one. We are very proud of our rich history, and we look forward to developing it even more in the future.

UTGMB welcomes a wide diversity of students across different majors and professional interests. Many of our members are pre-health with special interests in medicine, public health, and service. Aside from our brigades, which we host during semester breaks, we also offer many exciting opportunities during the year. Come stop by our general meetings for guest speaker sessions with physicians, join a weekend volunteering shift with Casa Marianella, or tag along for a coffee shop social. Check out "Members" tab to learn more!
