Breaking Down Barriers to Education in Winneba, Ghana
What we do
Texas Global Medical Brigades goes on a medical brigade to the Central region of Ghana every January, and each January we deliver new and used school supplies to the children at Municipal Assembly C/D Primary School in Winneba, Central Region, Ghana in partnership with Others' Smile Ghana, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the children at Municipal Assembly School. These school supplies allow more children to attend school as acquiring school supplies can often be a barrier to education for families in the Central region. Texas Global Medical Brigades believes in supporting every child's right to an education, and we this is how we stand by our commitment to break down the barrier to education that exist in the Central region.
How it began
How it began
In January of 2019, Texas Global Medical Brigades was in Ghana for our annual Ghana brigade. One of the teachers at Municipal Assembly C/D Primary School approached us seeking to begin a partnership to support the students. Many of these students come from difficult backgrounds or from families without the means to purchase school supplies that are necessary for an education. We then developed a plan to collect new and used school supplies from college students and the rest of the Austin community to support these students.
How you can help
Throughout the year, we collect and hold supplies for our January brigade to Ghana. If you have new or used school supplies (including backpacks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, markers, pencil cases, notebooks, highlighters, note cards, folders, binders, etc) please contact us at texasglobalmedicalbrigades@gmail.com or come to one of our general meetings during the school year (can be found at facebook.com/TexasGMB/ ).
